Have you ever heard of an ice cream serving system? SwirlGo is a Singaporean startup that was born with a revolutionary idea: to create the world’s first capsule-based machine for soft-serve ice cream. Starting from a functional prototype and a clear vision, Whynot designers shaped the aesthetics of this innovative device.
The goal was to design a versatile object suitable for various usage scenarios (convenience stores, F&B chains, events, etc.) that is not only recognizable but also exudes a friendly yet semi-professional and dependable character. The key drivers throughout the project were intuitive usability, self-explanatory design, and an iconic appearance.
Through meticulous material selection and finishes, we accentuated the handle and the display – the two primary points of interaction between users and the machine. The metallic finish of the handle conveys strength and reliability, complementing the technological and electronic aspects highlighted by the black display area.
An additional design challenge was cost containment, achieved by using plastic exclusively for the front case. Keeping all these constraints in mind, Whynot successfully crafted a one-of-a-kind device in the gelato industry – an elegant star for every food store.
